Declaring Interest on Self Assessment

Options
I am about to complete my accounts to give to the accountant.

I've had many, many savings accounts and have gone over the £1000 for interest. What happens if the exact figure is incorrect, will HMRC just change the return. I have phoned them, but they have no information (the banks/building societies have not sent them in)

The onus is on you to round up the relevant figures, in order to be able to make your formal declaration about data being accurate - if you don't have access to interest data directly via the various online banking portals, etc, then you should either contact the institutions to ask for it, or reverse engineer it from transactions to/from your bank when closing accounts.

The institutions have until later in the year to submit their returns to HMRC, so there will be more accurate data available in your personal tax account in the autumn, but the onus still remains on you to keep your own records....
