Avoiding library fines

I use the Calendar facility on BT Yahoo - you can set it up to send you an email reminder as necessary for everything you need to remember, and once you've set up an annual or regular event it's done and hey presto no more stress!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift - the present.0

This is a really good thread .... I used to get "clobbered" with Library fines pretty much every month .. it was a right pain, to the extent that I stopped using the local Library. It was quite expensive.
I got around it by taking out books on my Children,s ticket (shhh) ... and Children,s books on an Adult ticket ... there are no fines on Children,s books or tickets0 -
Thanks to this thread, I just checked my books and they were due today, so I renewed them online!0

I hated uni fines. To keep hold of the book before essays were due it made sense to have to pay for the pleasure if you had to. I used to feel so guilty though but if someone had it on hold you would never see it again! Academic texts are so ridiculously expensive to purchase.0

My son has a 'young adult' ticket, which he has had since the age of 10. This means he can take out adult books without the risk of fines, so I accompany him to the library and get him to take my books out for me now. In our area children automatically get a young adult ticket at 13 I think but, with parental consent, they can get it earlier. This saves me worrying about when to renew the books or fines.0

I didn't think that they fined you any more - my library don't0

Yep, they definitely still fine you ... unless you are exempt.Gone ... or have I?0

I only ever almost forgot on one occasion (I hid the study books under a blanket as they made me feel ill looking at them), then I managed to phone through just on time0

Around here you can renew your library books:in the library (any branch in the county), telephoning a branch library, online, 24 hour telephone line, by post.Fines are not charged here to under 5's and some other concessions, 5-18 year olds pay less fines.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I work for the library service and know that if you ask them to check your loans you can renew them all at the same time. It doen't matter when you took them out. That way they are all due back at the same time and you can keep renewing them in the library/online/24 hour phone line until you have finished with them (unless someone else requests it)
Also, believe it or not libraries have to earn money to pay back into the county council 'pool' which is then redistributed back into all council departments (in the same way that parking ticket money is). So never be embarrassed about having to pay a fine. It is crucial to ensure the future of libraries and does provide incentive to the less honest borrowers to return books.0
