References capacity.

Options

When providing references for a job application, how would I answer the question "In what capacity do you know this person?"

Both of my referees are managers. Would I just put manager or employer?

Thanks

    Yes.
For someone who is managing you at the moment, you may want to put 'current manager'.
For someone who managed you in the past, you may want to put 'previous manager'.
If they did not directly manage you at any point, then maybe just 'manager', but in that case I would assume they know you in some specific capacity i.e. maybe you worked on a project for them or something?
It can also be useful to think how they may say they know you - the reference may well start with the words 'I have known X for Y years in the capacity of....'
