    We used a broker Cavendish and paid them £50 some years ago to do this and pay £24 a month for £120,000 joint cover till retirement. 
    Im not being biased here, but I think the downside of not getting advice is that if it is wrong, you only have yoruself to blame rather than potentially a broker. 

    As an example, some people think terminal illness benefit is the same as critical illness, others think waiver of premium is income protection and so on. 

    If the premium looks too cheap (or expensive) there is probably a reason for that.
