Who has he contacted and how? If he's never heard of this company I would assume it's a hack/spam/scam of some sort. I would definitely contact the bank in question - first the one where the loan was from to ask if there was anything showing as outstanding despite the letter to the contrary. And then contact the joint account bank where the money is supposedly being taken from to let them know you suspect a scam.
If he does decide to contact ACI do it by snail mail to lessen the information provided to them. They themselves may have been hacked to make someone think this is legit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Does it actually say
'until the balance of £0.00 is repaid...'?
It actually sounds like a mess-up rather than a deliberate attempt to rob you.
However we have seen scams like this impersonating genuine firms, and they are always by email/text. I think you should keep an eye on your account but not reply to the email

Ignore anything other than a letter, time and time again people post about receiving an email asking for this or that, you only ever need respond to letters, never emails asking for money or stating gobbledygook.
Its either spam, or an error on their part.
Check your account with the bank and make certain nothing has been set up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
