Divorce - what will happen to the house post divorce?

Is he thinking of using the funds raised to pay you off (you move out?)?

Or does he need the money to buy somewhere else?

Are there any children to consider?

I would check with the land registry to see if there are already charges registered against them and definitely sign up for property alerts. If it is in joint names then no he cant but he would not be the first to forge a signature.  

Thank you so much to both of you for mentioning about the land registry. I will definitely do this. 

This is definitely worth doing, though it will only show you if anything has been registered after it has been done.

@Land_Registry, can you add anything?

He wouldn’t be able to take a legal charge (secured loan) on the property on his own if you are both registered owners. 

Personal loans are quite different but the clues in the name as not secured on the property. 

Property Alert is a good idea just for peace of mind and awareness of anything that might crop up against the title
