Good advice. The pension scheme should send you details around your first payday: the employer may defer you joining for 3 months but you can ask to join immediately. Just don't opt out ...

I'd also recommend understanding how tax deductions work through PAYE. 

And if this is your first job in the current tax year make sure you get a new starter checklist from your employer and tick statement A and give the competed form back to your employer, ideally direct to the payroll department/person.

This will ensure your employer uses the emergency tax code (1257L) on a cumulative basis from day one.
