Funny things you used to think about bankruptcy.....

......before you knew the truth about it all
One of the things that I thought was that the OR had complete control of your bank account and salary and "gave" you an allowance each month to pay bills/buy food etc......
Can you imagine the OR going to the bank for all the bankrupts to draw out money for them :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Another thing I thought was that once you were a bankrupt, you were always a bankrupt, I didn't actually realise you got discharged one day
Of course this was all before I found this site!!
Anyone else want to 'fess up??

I thought that an inventory would be made of personal belongings such as TV, stereo etc. and they too would have to be sold (I am not talking about high value items such as high end plasma's and so forth here!). Even had visions of me sat on a chair in the front room, bare floorboards, no curtains you get the picture.
Indeed I heard a so called financial expert on 5 Live this afternoon mention that your furniture may have to be sold if you go bankrupt (again not talking antiques here which may well have to be) so its not that surprising that these ideas persist among the uninitiated!0 -
To be honest until we talked to CAB I could not have told you a thing about BR not a thing:o No idea who, what or how:o Good in some ways as it didnt put the fear of Hades into us, just clear instructive info from CAB ,here & BRSC.
Know a lot more nw though:rotfl: :rotfl:Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
Yes i thought all the above things too (except ONE!)
The other thing i think is that as the likes of Alan Sugar, Richard Branson etc etc had gone BR and are now worth millions, that i would (or will be) too:D ..maybe, one day
I also thought that the devil would come up and chop my arms off in the middle of the night while sticking hot pokers into my eyes and screaming obcenities at me...but in the devils absence BH does a fine job....:D
Happy new year all, including you BH:DThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

I thought much of the above. Additionally I thought that the OR took everything over a certain amount of income, irrespective of outgoings if you see what I mean? And I was certainly told they would come and strip my house bare. Thank the lord for this and similar forums!0

I thought that
1. They would strip my house of furniture and assets leaving me with only white goods and a sofa
2. That my partner would lose his flat through no fault of his own (I have never contributed to the mortgage or the deposit)
3. That I would never be able to obtain credit or a mortgage again
4. That I could go to prison for filling in an application for a credit card when I said that I was a house owner (I was, but not living in the home given as my address)
5. That the house that I owned with my mother would be taken regardless leaving a family member homeless.
None of these things happened, all it ended up being was breathing space and a chance to sort out the mess.
