How to compare pension providers (Aviva and Scottish widows) and decide whether to TV old pot over

Hi

Does anyone understand about pensions?

I have an old work pension with Aviva in the managed fund, 0.60% per year management fees, and I have just started a new work pension with my new employer, this is with Scottish Widows and in the managed fund.

Ideally I would like to combine them by TV'ing the Aviva one across, the new one will accept transfers in, but I am not sure how to compare the fund performances. I thought I could google and get info on this and also company ratings/reviews but don't seem to be able to find anything.

I would be ever so grateful for some pointers please!

As this is a pensions forum, I don't think that question needs answering !

Firstly you can compare the pension providers. Good website? Do they reply to queries ? Good choice of investments etc

Comparing investments is more difficult as often you will find you are not comparing like with like. Some will be riskier and more growth focused and inevitably going up and down a lot more. Others will be more steady as you go .

Aviva and SW have their own funds making it more difficult to compare without looking into details. So if Aviva have a choice of 200 funds and SW the same then....

You say 'ideally' - and then say you aren't sure how to compare fund performances. Quite apart from the fact that past performance is no guide to future performance,  you've not said what makes such a move 'ideal'. Please could you say why you think that - could be you have a few misapprehensions about combining or keeping separate and someone here could clarify,
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
