He only took down the reason for today's missing ticket.
I did show the inspector tickets purchased before.
He said next time, you can buy Flexi tickets.
After writing back an explanation to the company.
What would likely be the result in these usual cases? First time ever ive had this done to me.
In order to understand what the companies response would be - you need to tell us who and what train and stations involved.

Im sure it is cross country. The train im sure is grey coloured.
Two trains connected together to go to a long destination stopping at major cities. I'm sure it is cross country.
This is the only time it has happened and I can produce previous tickets.
As the same train for some time.

It's definitely cross country trains. I remember logging on their WiFi. Or Avanti west coast.
I was nice, polite to the inspector and likewise he was nice back.
I did buy a train ticket after and I can produce previous tickets.
This is the only time in my life this has happened.
The inspector said I will receive a letter where I will need to write an explanation.

Definitely cross country trains.
I'll receive a letter asking for my explanation. I really hope it is just a penalty fine I have to pay in the end, I don't think my explanation will be good enough. However I will write the reason and write accordingly.
The inspector only took down today, just today for the contrivement.
I have never got into trouble before and can produce tickets. If I never got into trouble before and I board the train daily, it should be a penalty fine. Honesty I would already have got prosecuted if indeed travelled without tickets.0 -
Just wondering, if I indeed get prosecuted, could I lose my long term day job?0

It all depends on how well I co operate in the letter.
This is my first time and I'll be very apologetic. I honestly hope it's just a fine, rather than getting prosecuted.0 -
Sorry to be harsh but....
You didn't pay for the ticket.
There is not a valid reason why you didn't pay.
Any other tickets you've ever bought can't be considered as they are not for the journey in question.
It may be worth arguing that it was an oversight, and the first time, and they may be lenient. But whenever I travel by train I see signs informing me about the need for a valid ticket.
But no one here really knows. You need to wait for the letter then respond.1 -
Update:
I received the letter which they asked if I do not have mitigating circumstances, then to avoid legal proceedings I need to pay a fine, which I will.
I learnt my lesson.0
