Have looked around since last year and found we were able to buy a house so it all went to pot, we shopped around and decided which bed we want but i think it's the mattress really..
We have tried all sorts and tbh aren't really that fussed now i know loads of you are going to say it's very important etc which we know what i mean is in types of mattress we have currently got a very expensive silent night one which is our second one, not very impressed and the end springs have now gone! dd's bed on the other hand is a basic one form Argos which is actually comfier than ours! we are changing that soon but she is slightly easier!
So narrowing it down we want either a memory foam one or a mattress with the memory layer on the top..any reccomendations..Ebay have lots and the feedback is good on the ones i have looked at..
Or are we better getting a mattress and buying as topper?? why are there so many options these days??!!
Thankyou.

I won't mention any brands for legal reasons, but the problem you have with your 'expensive' mattress is very common for that brand.
As for Argos, it really is pot luck. most of the time they aren't as cheap as most people think they are. The only time you will find a real bargain with Argos is when they have an end of range clearance.
There is no such thing as a completely memory foam mattress.
Memory foam is best compared to a marshmallow. It doesn't bounce at all. When compressed it will return to it's original shape, but will do so very slowly. If you had a mattress made of memory foam only you would sink right down into it until you were almost lying on the surface underneath. So the memory foam on a mattress is designed to mould to the contours of your body to ensure that your weight is spread out and that there are no pressure points.
The layer under the memory foam is what gives the mattress it's bounce. This can be either springs or reflex foam. Although the density of the memory foam can make a difference to the firmness of the mattress, it is mainly determined by the spring layer.
It's far better to get a mattress with the memory foam built in rather than a topper because they were developed to work together.
The best place to find a wide range of genuine bargains on mattresses is on ebay.
I know that many people are very wary about buying items like beds from ebay. However if you follow a few guidelines then you can save up to 75% on the shop prices:
1) most important of all make sure that the seller gives a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
2) check previous feedback for the seller, and even contact previous customers to ask them about the seller.
3) use a company who display their phone number, so that you can talk to someone about your requirements (they want you to make the right choice because it will cost them if you return it).
4) check the sellers return policy. Many sellers charge for postage on returns.....can work out very expensive if you have unpacked a vacuum packed mattress, and you don't like it.
5) try to use a seller who delivers using their own transport. Couriers often damage or misplace goods (believe me I know from experience).
Obviously you can't try before you buy, but for the saving it is worth the risk if you follow the guidelines above.
DON'T GO FOR ANY MATTRESS THAT CLAIMS TO BE MEMORY FOAM, BUT ONLY HAS ONE LAYER IN THE MATTRESS.
