  • Hey Birds! Catching up with your diary today - your hens sound great! I feel you on the 0% moving and the fee feeling extortionate but it’s cheaper than months of interest. Glad you’re feeling better!!

  • Having an early lunch before appointments with work, the sun is gorgeous and I’m down on the coast with work. Quite pleased as I’ve resisted getting lunch out between visits and I’ve brought leftovers of couscous and boiled eggs. A slightly weird mix admittedly! Slightly regretting the eggs as they’re fresh from the hens and quite tricky to peel. First world problems and all!

I’ve had quite a frugal week so far, aside from utilities I’ve only spent on petrol. A few spends though on the weekend, went out with the BF on Saturday nights for a few pints which came to £15 and met some friends for lunch on Sunday which was about £12. I’ve been taking cash with me when I go out so I’ve a set budget, which has been really helping!

No spends for the rest of the week, hopefully should go for a run this evening. I’ve also had a few things bought on Vinted, I’m planning on putting this towards spending when I’m away next week. Only £30 so far but should help.

The only real negative this week is a crack that seems to be growing across my phone screen…. Hoping it stops as the phone is still usable but if not I’ll have to weigh up getting a new screen or finally renewing my contract.

  • Morning! Trying to keep up my weekly lunchtime catch ups, also saves me from the break room awkward lack of chat at work. Was feeling a bit grotty this morning but perking up as the day goes on.

Good and frugal weekend, only £4 on some second hand books. Also got out for a good walk with bf on Sunday, we just took a flask and some flapjack I’d made. I really like baking and find it quite calming.

Slight over spend this month so far (about £100), but compared to this point in the month last month (that’s a mouthful) I’ve spent £250 less. So hopefully I am getting on top of my spending!!!

Likely to be a few “fun” spends this week as we’re going to a friends wedding that’s all the way up the top of Scotland. So we’re having a night in a B&B on the way and back. This is all paid for which is a relief. I’m going to put my Vinted money towards holiday spends.

Hope everyone has a good week!

  • The flapjacks sound amazing! Always a winner having an easy bake. The wedding sounds lovely too, hopefully you get nice weather for a pretty drive up.

  • Hiya, catching up on your diary.

"I might just be justifying this as a landlord version of “internalised misogyny” instead “internalised landlord”.  very very funny.

Congrats on lowering your spending. I'm trying to do the same thing at the moment, it's hard going <3

  • Thanks both! Glad that the internalised LL bit was amusing, I am probably being a bit of a hypocrite but needs must!

Just had a big spend on the bathroom so feeling extremely skint. Work is mad and my boss is off with stress and his boss has just left so it feels constantly like carnage is about to arrive. Feel like my head is just too full.

Spent most the weekend working on the house, supposed to be going out on Friday night, not feeling it mentally or financially. It’s with some friends who are visiting home as they normally live overseas, so I need to pull myself together. I’ve booked a place for dinner that’s quite reasonable and a late slot so we don’t end up going out too late afterwards. I’ve had a chat with bf that I can’t afford a big night out. Proper 1st world problems!

Anyway, need to get out the grump!

  • So I’ve £340 till the end of the month. £130 needs to come out in bills so after this weekend no “going out” spends. Should be a no spend day today and tomorrow. Went to check the oil tank at the house earlier this week prior to winter and was happy to see I’m at 1/2 tank! Was thinking there was less in.

Have been reading through my old posts while I wait for a dentist appt this morning. Frustrated with myself that it’s taken me all summer to get on with things. I think I knew in June that I needed to spend some money even if it meant more debt to get in the position where I could get the house let out and some money in. I’ve just tread water all summer to avoid debt and frustratingly missed the summer season!! Anyway…. Pity party over! Could also do with some extra work in December to add to the coffers.

    Hi!

No spend day today, did have a pint last night… I met my sister who was in a bit of a way with herself. I’ve been aware that they’ve had some financial issues for a while predominantly her husbands, I’ve hardly seen her since the start of June as they live a few hours away so had a catch up last night as she was visiting our Dad. They’d had a few issues a few years ago as he “sorted the mortgage” and she just signed stuff including a consolidation loan which turned out to be secured on their flat. That caused issues at the time but I thought it was resolved, apparently not!

He gave up work during Covid as he wanted to support their kids more and was pushing to home school permanently. This hasn't happened but until this summer he’s still been out of employment. He’s recently started doing agency work part time this has been brought on as he got a CCJ over things he’d been buying and not paying for.

I don’t know the details but it’s exhausting as my sister works incredibly hard and still does the cooking and housework. I tend to avoid visiting now, as I find the situation upsetting and the husband is clear he doesn’t welcome my presence. She has said she’d like to get divorced but the consolidation loan has them in negative equity and she believes she’ll have to pay him out as she’s the higher earner. I’m sure there’s probably more to it than that but there we are!

I haven’t really got a moral or any realisation from this but it’s quite sad as she is constantly working and has supported him for 4 years (3 kids are in their teens). I’m not in the position to  help her financially and feel quite sad it’s taken her 4 months to tell me.

Suppose it’s a kick up the !!!!!! on dealing with the debt you’ve got and not hoping for a magic bullet.

So I’ve reduced a few things on Vinted, hopefully that’ll get them sold!!

No spend until Thursday except for milk.

  • Maybe she should look at getting some legal advice as to what her rights are. If they are I'm negative equity not sure how she is supposed to pay him off. I don't know where she stands if she can prove the debt was his originally.
