hi im new and need to talk

Hi ive been reading posts for a while now,ive had an awful year, after a death in the family and lots of family illness last christmas i started with a panic disorder and was off work for a while,i went back and struggled since but felt i was making progress.my debts however spiralled and finally 6 months ago took up a debt management plan,i hadnt missed payments at this point an they took it on for me,most agreed apart from natwest who i owe on a 20000 loan, still not heard from them! i also had several payday loans which bounced and agreed to pay them back with the companies,i havent paid 2 though for 3 months and heard nothing, this is because ive been ill again and really struggling, ive since found out the debt management company were charging a fee and that some of my creditors were not being paid,so i cancelled the arrangement and contacted payplan who were helpful but devised an arrangement less than the other company, ive decided the only way to get them paid is to do it myself which is what im going to do,im at breaking point though and just had another ill period and family death, any advice regarding natwest, and any payday loan companies would be appreciated.Happy new year to everyone, lets hope its a goo one!

    Hi Petal,

Welcome to the site. I too hit money problems when my Dad died 3 years ago (so no preaching from me).

What helped me get back on my feet, is opening the post with my mum (hadn't opened a letter for about 5 months after the death!!!) I then went to CCCS for help. I found their advice helpful, and it has helped me pay off a large chunk of my debts .

Also, see if you can get counseling for your bereavement, and allow yourself time to accept what has happened. I finally allowed myself to grieve 18 months after dads death.

    Take care

Likewise Petal, I'll probably be here till 2013. There is also a long haulers thread which is resurrected from time to time for long term support. You need to get started with your SOA as soon as you can. You have to plan all the time, it really helps with teh stress of it all. Good luck.

  • Hi Petal, just to let you know that there are people here who understand and who don't judge, and who can give you the help and support you need. I'm in a much better place both financially and emotionally than I was 12 months ago, and since joining MSE only a couple of months ago, I've been inspired to face things and start sorting things out. The main thing to remember is that everything you do from now on, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, is a step forward.
Wishing you courage and strength for 2008 x

Welcome, I'm sorry to hear you've had such a difficult time.

You are in the best place to get all the help, support and advice you will need to get your debts sorted out, as there are people here who have been in very similar situations to yours.

Why don't you get all your bits of paper together and post your SOA, and then you'll get much more specific advice about what your options are.

You will get this sorted-all the best x
