What to do with unused food?

By the time new year comes around and I start my diet I will have tonnes of food left in the kitchen
OH won't eat some of the stuff, there are also tins/packets in the cupboards he wont touch and I cant eat due to the type of diet I am going to be doing.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I dont want to throw good food away, things like tins of soup, packs of couscous and whole boxes of chocs. I cant even give the chocs for pressies because the ue by dates expire in april or earlier (theres one box that doesnt expire till Aug that I will keep for a present)
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Surely the tins and packets will keep.
As long as the chocs are gifted before the use by date, they should be fine.....if it is mentioned to you by the recipient......blame it on the shop.
Could you not use up the soup in a casserole for OH.
If you make a list of what are trying to get rid of, I'm sure there will be some meal suggestions that OH would eat.
Good luck with the diet....Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Hi
Take it all to a charity, something like age concern or a homeless shelter would be very greatful for this stuff.
I did this last year, my dad gave me a big box of food none of which we would eat so phoned the council they told where the local shelter was and i took it to them.

Thanks for the suggestions,
My OH is strange with food, he won't eat half of what I eat so tins of soup and cous cous have to go, also there is a massive box of fererro rocher, choc truffles, orange/lemon jelly slices, some other chocs/sweets (cant remember all as Im at work at the moment!) and lots of tins, mainly soup but also spaghetti, lasagne sheets.
To be honest I fancy a good clear out as well, remove all temptation!
The chocs use by will be up before I have any chance to give them for presents, all birthdays are after April in my family unfortunately.Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -

Do you have any idea where I could find somewhere to take it to please??Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0 -
I ended up phoning the council they told me about a local shelter for the elderly that distribute food and arrange tea mornings etc, this was just up the road from me.
Another option mght be to phone shelter or age concern, or even local charity shops, they should be able to point you in the right direction
To be honest I had promised to do this each year now, but this year i spent so little on food and didn't get many choc presents so i have nothing to give. I am thinking of buying a load of soups just to give them to the charity...

Ask your local priest whether you can donate the lot to local needy. It's traditional at Harvest Thanksgiving to make up boxes of food for the local elderly and needy, so it's a known exercise: the priest can send on the mixed boxes to those who would really appreciate a bit extra in the New Year.
Or, especially with treats like choccies, you could take them round to people who contribute to society e.g. a box to the volunteers at the local charity shop; local fire-station; RNLI; etc.0 -
Are you a member of a local Freecycle group? There are lots of food items being offered on there at the moment,hth0

What type of diet is this?
I ask because the Slimming World Green Plan would definitely encompass the couscous as a Free Food for instance and the pasta.0 -
I cleared out some cupboards about 6 months and had a carrier bag of stuff I wouldnt personally of used but had bought it all pre-OS and advertised on Freecycle...it was colected within 2 hours:D

I've always found that taking chocolates to work saves me from eating them! Plus it earns me brownie points with my workmates :-)Enjoying an MSE OS life0
