My dreadful experience

I initially enquired about paying for gaps in my NI contributions, which were many!  last Aug 2023
Was sent the info and calculator ...worked out my optimum payment and trabsferred the money on 27th Sept to HMRC
Several!!! ????phonecalls and even an email to my mp , sorted it myself tho', in the end, has taken 8months for my back payments and new pension to be implemented. This week I am apparently receiving the back payments and next week my new pension.  I only know, because, yet another phone  call, this morning confirmed it .No letter as yet tho'....so...best of luck trying to do this.I have been tearing my hair out at the frustration of it all
I was of course already in receipt of my meagre pension...
What on earth can it take??

Unfortunately topping up once already in receipt of the pension is a long winded manual process.  The actual payment can take a couple of months to update and then a notification has to be passed from HMRC to DWP who have to manually look at your whole NI history and recalculate your pension.  8 months seems to be about the current timescale. The letter goes out at the same time as they process the payments so unlikely you would hear in advance of the payments.
