Prior to 2016 you were contracted out of the additional state pension and paid a lower rate of NI.  This reflected in your new pension starting amount at April 2016 and the old scheme amount would have been the highest and what you received, you were then able to add to that with post 2016 contributions.  You are a winner under the new pension rules as you would have previously been limited to the old basic pension amount of £169.50 with little additional pension.  Did you never check your pension forecast ?  How much are you now receiving ?  Do you have any gaps in your NI record after 2016 ?

Where have you looked, plenty of information online. If you just google new state pension you will get all the info you need on gov.uk. Lots of other sites come up giving good info, Age UK, Citizens Advice, even some obscure site called MSE. I did 40 years in the Civil Service and I am a big winner under the new system. It is very likely that you will be too. Fingers crossed!
