Self Build-do we need building warranty?

we we have recently completed a self build and have applied for a small mortgage (45k on property value 650k) to complete garage and landscaping. We have been told that we cannot get a mortgage without a building warranty. The property has passed building regulations and has all relevant certificates.
Is this correct? Is this only on a ‘new build’. And how long would we have to wait to get a mortgage without a warranty?
Would this affect resale?

Someone more experienced will be along shortly.
We built a house a few years back and made sure we got an NHBC 10 year warranty. It was essential if we wanted a loan or a resale.0 -
We have just purchased a 6 year old self build with no building warranty. We are buying without a mortgage but know it will be a problem if we try to sell in the next 4 years to someone who does need a mortgage. Once 10 years are up the problem goes away.
It is however possible to obtain a retrospective building warranty

Some lenders will accept an Architect's certificate instead. Halifax criteria, for example;-
- Property must be subject to one of the following building control and monitoring requirements:
- Building Standards Indemnity Scheme from a warranty provider accepted by Lloyds Banking Group (see below for acceptable warranty providers)
- Professional consultant where small, solely residential development of no more than 15 units – consultant must meet qualifying criteria
- An acceptable guarantee from a development corporation or local authority where they are the vendor.
