I don’t get a choice as to when to invest. The whole lot will go into funds on 20th May
Why is that?  It seems unusual as with most (DC) pensions you usually have the option to hold contributions in cash and invest at a time of your choosing.
With most workplace pension and traditional pension providers, contributions go straight into the investments and not first into cash.
Remember the large majority of pension customers have no understanding about pensions or investing, So if their contributions went into cash, they would stay like that for evermore.
Hence the reason for these pensions having a default fund, for those who make no active investment choices ( about 95%)
( and hence also why SIPP's are not really suitable for many people)

OP Depending on the provider you might find it easier to let your £100K contribution go to your usual investments, and then change them afterwards.
Changing the destination of contributions can be a bit of a hassle with some providers, whilst changing actual investments is usually no problem.
