MSE Poll: How much credit card debt do you have?

Poll started 23 April 2024

The cost of living crisis has resulted in many taking on extra credit card debt – in some cases just to cover basic necessities. So this week, we want to know how much credit card debt you have in total and whether this has increased in the past 12 months.

Whoever created this poll should put the 'None' option at the top. I saw '£0 to ..' first and then the amounts steadily increasing and didn't spot the 'none' option at the bottom. I mean, why would I expect t see 'none' below the highest amount and not before the 0 amount...

Don't you remember the instructions given when taking your school/college/university exams, Tastyfish?  "Read ALL of the question before deciding upon your answer"!  (Although I must admit that I, too, was surprised by the order of the options!!)

  • I agree with tastyfish - because I did the same. I interpreted the question as "how much is currently outstanding on your credit card?" If they want me to tell them that I pay off the balance in full, they should either put that option at the top, or make it a separate question.
  • Where's the option for "I don't have a credit card"?

Not sure how this poll would capture whether my debt had increased in the past 12 months or not ?

Also, whilst credit cards are individual responsibilities, I for one am in a relationship where my debts are our debts (joint household), so the gender question is irrelevant as we split the bills according to the best cards for the situation.
