State Pension

I was 66 on the 17th April this year, I completed the on line form after receiving a letter from DWP to claim my pension, since then I have heard nothing, I tried to log in on line to find out when and how much I will be getting, but once you start the process, the site then asks for even more personal information, I only wanted to know when I will receive my first pension payment, seems like a lot of hard work to me.

Googling would have been quick and instant in terms of 'when': https://www.gov.uk/new-state-pension/when-youre-paid#:~:text=Your%20first%20payment%20will%20be,tell%20you%20what%20to%20expect.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Did you apply in advance of your birthday and if so by how much?  Were you still working and needed the 23/24 contributions.  These might affect how long it takes for them to start making payments.

I turned 66 beginning of Dec, had applied I think by the end of Sept and got a response and payment started 28th Dec.  I am thinking yours is more complicated by being just after the tax year end.

    Happy birthday btw!!

The only place you can find anything about your SP is in your income tax, there is no state pension area.  When did you apply ?  The response to the on line application is usually received within a week or so.  You could .wait a couple more weeks in case that one and only letter got lost then phone the Pension Service, or just call them anyway

That's surprising as I received my letter earlier this year and after completing the online form claiming the SP, I received a further letter a few days later telling me how much my first payment and subsequent 4-weekly payments would be and what dates they would be paid.

My 66th birthday was in autumn 2023. I applied online when I got my letter in the summer, and immediately got an automatic email acknowledgement of my claim. My letter to inform me of dates and amounts came 6 weeks later. I'm sure mine took longer as I'm a widow who inherited some of my husband's additional pension. My friends all got their letters quickly, but none of their birthdays were early in the tax year.
  • I'm curious as to how this works.  When you apply can you pick another date rather than your birthday?

If you wish to defer, you just don't claim.

If you claim, you should advise if you want payment other than four weekly.

You will then be told when the first and subsequent payments will be made.
