If only we had done it 20 years ago!
They probably wouldn't have been eligible to join the FIT scheme when that started in 2010 and there wasn't an SEG scheme until quite recentlyNE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50 -

I'm on Flux too. If my battery is at 100% when the sun goes in and I use it to run overnight, it is usually down to 60-70% by the time the sun comes up. At the moment, because the weather has been so variable I have set it to charge to 70% capacity overnight. Sometimes it doesn't top up at all, but if I've used a heavy energy appliance in the evening it will top back up - just a kw or two to give 70%. If we have a cloudy day this will still see me through without using full price from the grid. If we have sunny spells then the battery fills back up to 100% with solar and then exports the rest, including over the lucrative 4-7pm period. It's just easier than faffing around changing the % charge to match the weather. If we finally get a summer I will stop all charging over night though.2

We pay 4.98p per kW/h between 2.00am - 5.00am
5.11p for SEG export
FWIW I charge to 50% battery overnight. It's been enough to prevent daytime import every day so far since switching away from our winter with Agile...I'll probably drop it back to 35-40% once the sunny days are more reliable. I then do a brief top up to 40% (if it's below that) from 1530-1600 to make sure there's no peak import, and a forced export from 1600-1900 down to 50%. I was more aggressive with the overnight top-ups and forced exporting last summer, but the lower rates don't look like they make it worthwhile this year.4.7kWp (12 * Hyundai S395VG) facing more or less S + 3.6kW Growatt inverter + 6.5kWh Growatt battery. 2024 I'm £15 In credit (not inc standing charges) compared to 2023 when I was £25 in credit at the same stage at the end of April.
2023 was no topping the battery up
2024 I have been topping up to 100%
Prices were very different last year for export though so the figure are not completely comparable.4.3kwp JA panels, Huawei 3.68kw Hybrid inverter, Huawei 10kw Lunar 2000 battery, Myenergi eddi, South facing array with a 15 degree roof pitch, winter shade.0 -
If you exclude gas (and SCs as above), I'm £53 in credit so far this year, with a net return to grid of 120kWh.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0
