Sound quality is great for the JBL Charge 3, which I own. I researched a lot before choosing the JBL Charge 3, because I needed portability, decent amount of subwoofer bass, plenty of treble and mids to make everything coming through it, clear enough without using ANY equalizer.
My main gripe with the JBL, and this is the same with most portable speakers is, placement. Depending on where you're sitting, standing, etc....you won't get the full benefits of the sound, sub bass for example....without it, you might as well listen using your phone speaker.
I would say the JBL one I've mentioned, isn't the best looking if you want to blend in with decor.
As others have said, it's more of a party speaker. But it can easily match the output of a larger "hi-fi" speaker.
Maybe a Sonos would blend in better. The sound quality is decent, but I often read in reviews, that people buy them in pairs, to fully appreciate them
