I apologized for posting this in the wrong place and am having difficulty reposting it on The Prolific Forum.

After exhaustive unsuccessful attempts I  was eventually asked to Return this Study by the Researcher - this was after I had been directed to click on a link and received a completion code.

Now I can't remove Parsec from my computer or the icon from my Desktop - it keeps saying it is open and I cannot find a way to close it, delete and "get rid of it/uninstall it permanently."

I regret ever attempting to participate in this Study.     Any help would be greatly appreciated.Parsec.

It would  be helpful to know if anyone has participated in this Study, completed it successfully and managed to uninstal/delete

If this would be better on The Techie Forum please let me know.

Have you tried force-stopping it in task manager?

Thanks very much CliveOfIndia.  I found it in the Task Manager and I think it's been deleted.

    No problem at all.
Just to clarify, stopping it via Task Manager will stop it from running.  You will still need to uninstall it, either using Windows Add/Remove Program or a third-party uninstaller (the default Windows remover should be perfectly OK for most stuff).
And deleting the icon from the desktop won't uninstall the program, you need to do an actual "uninstall".
Apologies if I'm teaching grandmother to suck eggs, just wanted to offer some advice :)

Thanks CliveOfIndia.  Parsec was not on the list of installed programmes.  I could not find a trace of it anywhere and hope it means it's gone for good.

You are not teaching your grandmother to suck eggs - I am well into the age of grandmothers but I (as my niece once reminded me!) am not technically adept.  I often need help and appreciate the help given so freely and generously here, thank you very much for your advice - it really is appreciated..

I'm panicking  a bit now and will post on The Techie Forum.  I worry in case Parsec has done something to my laptop.  The screen has gone completely orange, is frozen and I cannot access anything.  I am writing this on my Tablet.

UPDATE:  The panic I was feeling is off for now.  I posted on The Techie Forum and hope some experienced person there may know what has happened.  I pressed some random keys (desperate to try anything) and, somehow, the orange screen has gone and I can use my laptop again - typing on it just now.  I really wonder if Parsec is somehow responsible.
  • There isn't a Prolific forum on mse, but there is a dedicated thread for Prolific surveys, title makes it sound like it just for posting survey alerts but it it's actually for any Prolific related discussion
