Vetting process at work - Am I in trouble?

Good evening all,

I recently took a job at a small Security firm & office based but I’m currently 4 weeks in & absolutely loving it so far.

Now, I went on a course so I could get involved with Vetting new members of staff -

during the course it was said that a Credit check had to be complete etc & that if anyone fails the credit check then they’d fail the vetting process & their employment would be terminated.

When I checked the files that needed doing to my horror I have seen that I am yet to be vetted…. Now my credit rating isn’t exactly sparkling. I have debt, I have missed payments in the past but I haven’t had or had any CCJs in the past.

In the course it said something about CCJs over 10k … but unsure to what this actually was. I’m bricking it now obviously as I left a job I’d been at over 20 years to come here.

When I looked at past files I can see absolutely no-one had failed vetting at this stage & I fail to believe that hundreds of people are all completely squeaky clean.

My credit rating is average - no missed payments since last year, no CCjs

am I right to be anxious or just getting into my own head a little here?

IMAO if you have no CCJs and just missed payments more than a year ago you should pass.

There is no point worrying about something that cannot be influenced. Either your credit history is good enough or not. The absence of CCJs is, I think, likley to mean that your won't fail their vetting process. Just carry on doing a good job, and deal with any problem if it happens.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

You are in your own head a little.

Take some time to tidy up your personal records so if anyone comes asking you have everything to hand. Then if they ask for more information you say that you had some challenging times last year (insert short explanation) but you are in a better place now. You have had no missed payments since MonthYear and you expect that to continue. If you expect your cards to be cleared in the future then you could say that also.

The message you are giving is: Yes, there was an issue but that is now passed, everything is under control, I have this in hand.

I have vetted thousands of people, including hundreds in the security industry, I think you'll be fine.

Most only vet the public record which is limited to showing things like CCJs or IVAs etc and dont go the whole hog of the full record which would show late payments etc.
