Lost Endowment Policy

When I bought my first house in 1985 with my then fiancé we took out an endowment mortgage. 6 years later when we split up I re-mortgaged the house with a repayment mortgage but never cashed in the endowment. I did however stop payments to it. I no longer have any of the documentation, have checked with the solicitor who handled the purchase and my divorce and they don't have any documents either. I am unable to get bank statements showing payments as Barclays say their records don't go back that far. How can I find information on the endowment policy.
Thanks in advance

Back in 1985, your payments in the early years (between 3-5 years depending on provider) would go solely on charges. So, it would barely have a value. Then when you stopped payments, they would either continue paying the life assurance element out of the policy until the money runs out and the policy ends or they would surrender the policy and pay you the money.
As you were living in the same house, you would have continued to get post and statements until it ended. With it being nearly 40 years ago, I suspect your recollection isn't that strong.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I am sure that someone with more knowledge will be along to help, but my understanding, for what it is worth, is that if you didn't surrender it at the time, but stopped payments then any value left in it would have been used to cover the life insurance component until the value was exhausted.0
