Walking Satnavs

Options
Has anybody ever tried a walking satnav? They had some at Aldi a few months ago, but I didn't take much notice of them. I'd like to do a bit of gentle walking but I'm no good with maps and can get lost.
I have a TomTom 1 for the car which is great, but it was no good for walking in Yorkshire on footpaths.
I've been reading about some Garmin ones. The GPSMAP 60Cx: sounds good but I’m not entirely sure how these work compared to a car satnav. Has anybody used any walking satnavs? Do they plot your route and show you where to go? I don’t need one that doubles as a road map as I’ve got the TomTom. Thanks.

sorry but a walking satnav is just a like another crap gadget for a must have with everything.
not having a pop but i dont see why you cant use a map i mean you are only walking after all.
you say you cant read maps well then try and learn, make it a NYR to learn.
I cannot imagine walking the streets or through parks with something in my pocket going turn left, turn right, oooooh slow down speed camera :D
I also go out cycling and once you get the hang of your surroundings you will not get lost.

TT isnt bad for some walking routes but the detail isnt anywhere near as good as an OS map for instance. Garmin and others do simple satnav devices for walkers but in my view the best option is a PDA with something like Smartmap or similar. With a program like this you can upload an OS map of the particular area you are visiting which gives you all the detail you need. A lot of people use this combination for geocaching etc.

I have the Garmin Nuvi 200 - which has a walking option.
All you get is a straight line between your present location and your destination. You have to identify the actual path yourself.
It seems to work OK though.

Don't try driving using this setting! :D
