Buying PS3 games from abroad...

Options
I have just invested in a new PS3 and am currently awaiting delivery from Amazon.

Having looked at the price of games, i don't really fancy £30 - £40 a time

I have, however, heard that the PS3 is multi-region and can play games from abroad.

Can someone please tell me if this means U.S. & Jap games?

Also, can anyone please advise where to shop to pick up these games whilst taking advantage of the $ at the moment?

Cheers in advance,
Rosco.

  • Yes you can buy from anywhere

    Canadian site
    www.dvdboxoffice.com
    American site
    http://www.cduniverse.com
Asian site (probably the cheapest for most!)
    http://www.renchi.com/index.jsp (or for example http://www.renchi.com/renchi/PS3_Games_Asia_Burnout_Paradise_AS.htm )

It is always worth asking the retailer if they can mark down the customs charge on a package they send you. This way you hopefully wont have to pay any extra when it arrives
  • It Is True That The Ps3 Is Region-free But Buyer Beware!!!i'm Still Not Too Sure What The Difference Is Between Ntsc And Pal Games Are But The Main Thing Is That The Companies That Produce These Games May Put A Region Lock On Them, So You'd Better Check Whether It Is Region Free Before You Buy. Sites Like Renchi And Play-asia Have A Separate Section For Region Free Games So Don't Get Caught Out Whatever You Do.also, Make Sure You Know How Much The Postage Is Before Committing To Buy As I Have Found Sometimes That Once The Postage Is Included, The Difference In Price Is Not Really Massive And Have Ended Up Going To My Local Shop To Get It.
    Target: £145,000 for 2008
why aim low? I want my mortgage paid for!
Otherwise... only 30 years to go to pay off!!!
Comp wins: zip, zero + other words beginning with a 'z'.
  • Pretty sure all the games are Region Free. Makes no difference about the PAL or NTSC as I have a NA PS3 and use PAL games. Movies on the otherhand can be region locked so check them out before you buy them.

PS3 games are definitely region free, it's the movies that are region encoded. The thing to watch out for is that if you are using an old TV, games encoded for NTSC can display in black and white or not at all if it cannot handle a 60Hz (US) signal. If you are lucky enough to be using an HD TV via HDMI there will be no problems at all.

PS The above also applies if you set up a US playstation store account and buy games from there.
