I have received a letter today from Ernest Wilson for an apparent debt from 2001 with a ccj in March 2002 (that I knew nothing about) demanding that this debt is settled.
" We intend to apply to court to enforce the judgement as this will incur further costs, I am writing to you to provide an opportunity to pay the sum of xxxxx within 14 days."
Can they do this after 20 years? Its the first Ive heard of it. Thank you

No they are trying it on.
What ever you do don't phone or E Mail them.
Send them a Provit letter and see what happens.

They can’t enforce a judgement from 2002, it became unenforceable years ago, they are hoping you don’t realise that.
You should send the provit letter, but adapt it to say that court judgements are only enforceable for 6 years, and a more than 20 year old CCJ would be subject to sec 24 limitation act 1980, this gives creditors 6 years in which to enforce them.24Time limit for actions to enforce judgments.
(1)An action shall not be brought upon any judgment after the expiration of six years from the date on which the judgment became enforceable.
