Hi. I have just recieved a letter from Resolvecall claiming I owe money to a bank. 22 years ago i moved to Canada but didnt close my bank account in the uk. I fell on hard times and remembered I had an overdraft on my uk bank. I cant remember how much I think about £300. I withdrew the money because I was desperate always meaning to pay it back. 8 years later I moved back to UK completely forgetting about the overdraft. I have had no communication with the bank or any debt collectors until today, 22 years later where they are claiming I owe £1,800. Where do I stand legally with this? I have read somewhere today that if you have had no communication with anyone for over 6 years the debt is wiped out. As I said, I have not received anything from anyone ever regarding this debt. Hoping someone can advise me here. Thank you.

resolvecall are a bunch of idiots, no one takes any notice of them, they have no authority about anything.0

Just ignore them as Django says they are a waste of space. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Idiots or not (& I'm not saying not) if they keep pestering you send them a "prove it" letter. By post. Don't respond to anything they send by email or by phone as that just makes pestering easier. And at no point admit to owing anything at all, particularly in writing. So no "I did withdraw some money putting my account into my overdraft" or anything remotely similar. Just "please prove that I owe you money". But only if they persist.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. After 6 years of non-payment, the debt became statute barred, unless the creditor got a CCJ. And 6 years after the CCJ that became unenforceable.
We're seeing that a lot of very old debts with and without CCJs have recently been sold on and the new owner is trying to get people to pay. A lot of the time Resolvecall are part of the chasing up process. Resolvecall have as much power as next door's kitty, but at least you can stop them coming on your property if you remove their right to enter.
The new owner hope you don't know the law and will cough up, or you can't remember your debts and will cough up even if you aren't the debtor. The new owner paid almost now't and see hoping for the odd gem that is still enforceable and the old debtors get scared.
You could just ignore. If they make a nuisance send the prove it letter. If Resolvecall bother you write and tell them that they have no right to enter your property, and make a formal complaint if they try.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
