Error on HMRC calculation on old fiscal year

Hello everybody,
I am wondering if you are aware of any issue with HMRC data recently. In the tax year 21-22 I changed job few times and one of my company did messed up with my tax code. I had to repay HMRC 7K more or less of unpaid taxes. That calculation was correct and I repaid everything correctly by December 22. in my HMRC page everything was for more than a year showing correctly, no unpaid tax is owed. However last week I logged in briefly and I can see the 7K reappeared. I called them and passed them the details of all my payments etc. Do you know if this error is something that is happening on a wider scale? I hope the investigation goes smoothly and they can reconciiate the payment receipt number with my account.
Thanks

Were you completing a Self Assessment return for the year the £7k was owed for or did HMRC send you a Simple Assessment (PA302) calculation?mc1982_2 said:Hello everybody,

It was simple assessment that year.0

It was a simple assessment, and it was correct. i am not disputing that, I do not understand how after a year the data that I paid changed and looks like I owe money againDazed_and_C0nfused said:

AIUI Simple Assessment works in a similar way to Self Assessment, any calculation wouldn't reflect tax you have paid direct to HMRC.mc1982_2 said:

That is dealt with separately, with Self Assessment you have a statement of account showing all transactions.
So if your Self Assessment calculation showed a liability of £7,000 and you paid £7,000 that wouldn't alter the fact that your calculation would always show £7,000 was the tax due for that tax year.
Have you actually been asked to pay any more money or is this simply something you have noticed online?0 -
Exactly this. The calculation of liability is just that - a calculation! Any payments towards any amount owing as a result of this calculation is a separate issue.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:

Hello, thanks for the comments. I have just noticed online, I did not received any letter this time. Separately back in 2022 I did received a letter telling me that I need to pay more etc.0

I got the same issue popping up when I logged into my tax portal yesterday and it is disconcerting to say the least. When I clicked on the the year it did say ""There is a problem and the amount you owe may not include any recent payments you have made." which isn't the most obvious way of making clear what it's actually showing.mc1982_2 said:Hello, thanks for the comments. Followup on my side here. The amount owed is disappeared now. However, I have discovered that two informations can be displayed when inspecting past tax year. One with the wrong numbers, and one with the right one. I think they have some issue in the way this info is showed in the user interface.0
