Non Coded Income - revived thread

The above and other related threads have been closed, though no indication if the OPs and others got their NCI removed ?
A few years ago we found we had some NCI showing and spoke to the tax office and the guy could not say what it was, even after speaking to his manager ??
Just got our new year tax summary and the same amout of NCI is still there ?
No idea what it is, and its over ten years since we retired and following tax demands have otherwise been correct.
We have never had anything like Carers Allowance etc.
Would be good to know how to get this spurious amount removed , does a letter, paper or online, have any effect or do we need to do a SA form to clear it ??

It almost certainly originated from an entry (or entries) on a Self Assessment return.
Unless your tax affairs involve HICBC, tapered Personal Allowance or Married Couple's Allowance it won't have any impact on your tax code and won't change the tax you pay.
But you can ask HMRC to remove it if it is no longer relevant and all current sources of income are accounted for elsewhere.1 -
Thanks for the reply, and no , nothing like you mention above, in fact just the usual retired income as simple as you can get.Its just a bit un-nerving when you see them put up such a figure that we have no idea what it is about.Even so, if it was a taxable amount, why have they not demaded payment for it ? its been showing for several years ?Will write to them and see if they will remove it, as that phone call a few years ago had no effect..0

It's not a taxable amount in that sense though.dino2020 said:Thanks for the reply, and no , nothing like you mention above, in fact just the usual retired income as simple as you can get.Its just a bit un-nerving when you see them put up such a figure that we have no idea what it is about.Even so, if it was a taxable amount, why have they not demaded payment for it ? its been showing for several years ?Will write to them and see if they will remove it, as that phone call a few years ago had no effect..
It is only used when determining your adjusted net income for tax code purposes.
So it could impact tapered Personal Allowance, HICBC or Married Couple's Allowance from a tax code perspective but is irrelevant other than that.
