Preserving Jars

Haven't had to buy any in years, so wondering where the best bargains are to be had. I'm looking for smooth round twist top 260 ml approx types. It's almost the bottling season so wondering if HB or similar will generally stock them and are well priced?
Thanks.

The best bargains are to save jars that you buy food in as then you get the food as well. I like Heinz mayonnaise jars as they have a nice shape. Obviously it’s a bit late for that.
If you don’t mind used jars you can post on Freecycle or Olio asking for clean jars.
If you want new ones I’m afraid I don’t know where is cheap. I get them from Lakeland sometimes but they’re not cheap.3000/6000 emergency fund

Amazon or eBay probably the cheapest place.

Aldi basics strawberry jam. Bin the jam - it's just strawberry juice and gelling agent - but the jars are a useful shape and size and work out at 39p per 1lb jar. If you want smaller jars their basic mint sauce is 55p per jarIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!3

39p a jar? No wonder it’s not real jam, @maryb.
To answer the original question, I buy mine at Lakeland when there’s an offer/money off voucher (spend £x and save £5). Also, stock up on extra lids, since a good seal is so important and the Lakeland lids will fit other jars of similar size.
The other place I purchase preserving jars is the huge Carrefour in Cite Europe in Calais, (near the Channel Tunnel exit). They’re usually good value for money, but they aren’t the cheapest. They normally have a huge range of styles and sizes of Kilner and Le Parfait jars. (ETA: and, of course, you have to get to France. However, if you’re driving past...)

Yes I want new, as some will be gifts. I'm not a big Lakeland fan but was in the store recently and they just don't have an ideal size, may compromise and go for the 12 x 227g. I'm also going to check out The Range etc before deciding.

As many have said you can reuse old jars with the labels soaked off (white spirit) , you can change the lids so they are all matching and not advertising their previous contents, you can often find packs of lids in Hobby craft.1

Look on ebay and amazon for bonne maman type jars.

I get regular "donations" of jars from friends, mainly because they want some of my preserves! I often get fancy jars from hampers and baskets which they have been gifted at Christmas time. I tend to re-use jars but replace the lids which I buy from the JamJar Shop. I get red polka dot and gold lids( they have other colours).A friend made some chutney to give as gifts one Christmas. This was her first attempt at making preserves and she had bought the ingredients which cost quite a lot. She used small jars to get the most out of her batches of chutney and had saved up lots of Mint sauce jars. Sadly all of her chutney was tainted with Mint!I have seen lots of offers of jars on freecycle. I also got some lovely lids which fit Bonne Maman jars on Amazon. They had lovely pictures of fruit on them, I think they were French.Someone gave us some chutney at Christmas and it was in clip lid jars from Ikea. They were quite small jars maybe used for storing spices. I don't know if they are still available as we don't have an Ikea near us. I do use Ikea's larger clip lid jars for preserves which I have had for years.1

seedsofitaly.com has Bormioli jars with lids, spare lids, decorative labels, and a funnel for pouring stuff into jars without mess, as well as bottles for passata.1
