    As this issue is relatively new I think it is case law which will determine or fine tune criteria in time. 

    It is not really a new issue, ex pats have always had to deal with it, although it used to be a deduction rather than a uplift.
    If you do decide to make a case of it, where you pay your tax or any NI will be taken into account.

    You are being very vague about how much time you spend at each location. Anything between 9 months abroad and 6 months?
    Since we are nearly at the end of the tax year, how many weeks/months have you spent in each location in tax year 23/24?
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    CT financial year started today (1 April 2024)
    If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    I have a similar problem. I live in rented accomodation in Germany and when I retired I bought a small retirement flat in the UK. The first year I paid normal council tax, now I have received my new council tax bill and I have to pay 2 council tax (council tax premium) for having a second home.
    It doesn't seem fair, I am paying tax in Germany and 2 in England.
