Second home council tax on sole home in UK

It is not really a new issue, ex pats have always had to deal with it, although it used to be a deduction rather than a uplift.Harbour said:@marcia_ I did mention living in Europe and returning to the UK on retirement….
As this issue is relatively new I think it is case law which will determine or fine tune criteria in time.
If you do decide to make a case of it, where you pay your tax or any NI will be taken into account.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
You are being very vague about how much time you spend at each location. Anything between 9 months abroad and 6 months?
Since we are nearly at the end of the tax year, how many weeks/months have you spent in each location in tax year 23/24?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I have a similar problem. I live in rented accomodation in Germany and when I retired I bought a small retirement flat in the UK. The first year I paid normal council tax, now I have received my new council tax bill and I have to pay 2 council tax (council tax premium) for having a second home.
It doesn't seem fair, I am paying tax in Germany and 2 in England.0
