Validating payments to people who don't use online banking

Options
My wife recently agreed to take over ticketing for a local event for the organiser.  When it came to paying all the money online I suggested that she paid £1 into the individual's bank account and  ask him to confirm receipt.  She has paid the £1 and the account holder's name showed a match but he says that he won't know until he gets his statement.  I could suggest that she pay him a cheque for the balance which is nearly £1,000.

In this case, as he has an unusual name, I'm confident that the details are all correct but there doesn't seem to be any way round this problem apart from paying by cheque for people who don't use online banking where large sums are involved.

Does he like going into his branch?  I'm sure they would be willing to check for him.
    Or phone?

If the account holder chooses not to check until he receives a statement, why not just wait until then prior to sending the rest (via the same transfer mechanism)?

As a wider issue, I'm not sure I'm understanding the scenario here, but it sounds like it could stray into business account territory, so if your wife is using a personal account for processing ticket money, that may not be without risk....

I would be confident enough with the name check.
Very few people don't have access to their transaction details either immediately by app or online banking, or within a few minutes by phone banking.
If you're worried just wait until the person confirms they have received the £1 and then pay the balance.
I'd be interested to know the logistics of 'taking over ticketing' and what that meant for your wife as it sounds a bit strange.

There's phone banking, and you can sometimes check transactions at cash machines.

If he's not interested in checking if the £1 is there then it can't be that important to him so I'd just wait until he does.
