Best place to sell unwanted CDs???

Hello fellow DFW's.

Now that Christmas is over, and having some free time now before returning to work next year, I am planning to finally get around to getting rid of a load of CDs which I have been planning to do for ages!

I have used eBay a lot this year, but I'm not sure this is the best way to go for CDs.

I've heard people mentioning Green Metropolis and I'm also aware that Amazon and Play.com have facilities to list used items.

I'm just wondering, based on other people's experiences, what is the best platform for selling used CDs and are there any tips/advice I should know?

Obviously I would like to get the best prices I can, sell as quickly as possible, and pay as little in fees as I can!

Any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Sy

  • ill be watching this thread closely....my experience is that its hard to give CD's away now! Most people download and i have never made more than a couple of quid per cd. Most have gone at car boot sales and only made roughly £1 on each one.

    Good luck though :)

I've always found ebay is the best place for cds-they just don't seem to sell on any of the others for me. I'd just wait for one of their cheap listing days and do it then.

They don't sell for much, but its better than nothing! :D

I always have trouble selling books, so I'm going to try amazon for them in January.

Hi, It is cheap listing day on the 29th and each item can be listed for 10p so now is the time to get them listed and wait and see if there are any buyers out there.
    Good luck

  • I`ve just today sold my entire collection on Ebay(610 cd`s) for a £1000.:j
I could have tried selling some of the more rarer ones on Amazon marketplace and the rest on ebay but like somebody said they arn`t selling for much these days and we needed the room so well pleased with the result, even if it did take me25 years to collect them(but there all on the computer and MP3 players anyhow!)
Now I must make sure it goes towards the debts.

Hi there. I've done pretty well selling CDs on Amazon. I would strongly recommend Amazon - it's much easier to use than ebay and you don't pay any fees until they sell. All the CDs I've listed have sold fast - however they were quite rare classical music ones, I imagine there will be more competition if they are very popular ones.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Most of the CDs I'm looking to sell are probably quite common so I'm not expecting them to sell for much, but I've got quite a few and it all adds up!

I think I might use the cheap listing day on eBay on the 29th and see how it goes. I'm used to using eBay so although it's time consuming I should be able to list it all quite quickly, and I've been surprised at what's sold on there in the past so it seems like a reasonable bet.

    Thanks for the prompt replies.

It really does depend on the who's hot and who's not thing.
For example last Christmas I sold an original 1980's Jason Donovan CD for £18 , due to the Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here show.
There are some rare Michael Jackson 1980's CD singles that will go for £10, obviously diehard collectors want the artwork.
I found a Yetties CD in a charity shop last year that went for £15. It also seems that compliation CD's go quite well, Ministry of Sound, Now that's what I call music etc.
It's worth checking google for some of your older stuff .
    Good Luck with it
