Given the topic of this board, the Forum Team want to make sure that posts are useful but remain in line with the Forum rules, which state:

"However well-intentioned, avoid seeking and/or offering medical advice, as it could result in unwanted consequences for all concerned."

Aside from the fact that such content does not fall under the topic of MoneySaving, the intention of this rule is to help prevent unforeseen dangerous situations.

We absolutely appreciate that people's intentions may be good, but everyone has unique medical histories, physiologies and personal situations so we need our Forumites to be mindful of the potentially severe implications of seeking or taking medical and healthcare advice via a Forum post.

For example, the below is absolutely not permitted:

"I have the same condition as you, [medicine name] worked wonders for me."

"Can anyone recommend an alternative to [medicine name]?"

"You should ask your GP to refer you for [procedure name]."

However, something like this would be permitted because it falls under the topic of MoneySaving and is not recommending a treatment:

"If anyone uses [over-the-counter medicine], [retailer name] has a great deal at the moment."

For the safety of other users, we ask that you leave the recommendation of specific medicines, healthcare and medical procedures to qualified professionals. This includes over-the-counter remedies. Likewise, if you need advice about a particular medical condition, please consult your GP.

If we believe a post or thread may be in breach of these rules, we will err on the side of caution and remove it. Repeated instances may lead to your posting privileges being removed, so we urge you to carefully consider what you write before posting it.
