Nope sorry still not understanding what
    you are inferring.
You can claim it no problem, if via the phone you'll be asked the questions regarding
why you are working from home?
Does your enployer not contribute to your expenses?

So if the answers are, There is no physical office presence and your employer doesn't contribute anything, it should be ok,

However not knowing the size of the company or number of requests it would be likely to trigger an investigation into the company as to why they don't reimburse you (If HMRC ever get to a respectable staffing level again), even a token payment for WFH increased costs would be tiny in comparision compared to rents they are saving.

If doing it by letter, then you might get asked for proof that you are required to work from home, ie your contract.

    I’ve always claimed it online.

And my employer doesn’t reimburse me because they don’t have to. Doubt HMRC will trigger an investigation as a result of that.

It’s not cheap to work from home. Our company spends almost as much on cloud based sharing and storage as we did on the office rent.

Does seem petty to only pay for weeks with at least a single day worked from home. The cost of all the additional complexity surely outweighs the cost of the actual tiny tax relief and is somewhat indicative as to why our tax code is one of, if not the world's, largest and most expensive to operate.

...and yes OP, I got the same notice as I also claim and had my contract changed to fully remote.

Does it seem petty - seems pretty generous to me restricting it to 48 weeks when the majority of people have more than 4 weeks leave and the statutory minimum is 28 days.

It's only expensive to operate as there are far too many expenses and reliefs available. Scrap them and make employers pay for their employees expenses, which is also beneficial for the employee as they get the full amount reimbursed rather than at their marginal rate of tax.
