Digital meters had the capacity to always get it wrong .
That's not the only problem. As I understand it (from bitter experience), not only do the two registers have to be configured so that one records peak and the other offpeak usage, they have to be arranged so that the first (Tier 0 or 1) labelled 01 has to be for peak usage, with the second (Tier 1 or 2) labelled 2 for offpeak. Otherwise, DCC chokes on the readings and it's a bit of a lottery what the supplier eventually gets. This first came to light as some SMETS1 meters were being 'enrolled and adopted' by DCC; those that had the first tier recording offpeak usage just wouldn't behave, and there was no solution except simply to accept that the registers had to be swapped to allow E&A to go ahead.I'm not being lazy ...

BG installed approx 2 million SMETS 1 meters starting around 2013 if I remember right before they were even OFGEM ratified and they were doing it at great speed. The installers were making really good money installing as many as they could just doing the whole street in one go At that time BG supplied most of the street with gas and lots switched electric to them to too for a discount . Their handhelds had register 1 to mean low with 2 as normal .My manager knew they were being transposed but said the billing dept would get it correct . .Ildhund said:SAC2334 said:... nearly all their Eco 7 digital meters were transposed ...

BG were I think the first to offer a TOU tariff ,the free weekend electricity with either Saturday or Sunday free 8 hrs . I don t think they had any problems with that multi rate tariff .
