I see that you’ve read why on the Gov. pages. I am a carer for my disabled son and I always knew that the Carers allowance would end when my State Pension started last July. If you are eligible for Pension Credit you can get a Carer Premium because she has an underlying entitlement to Carers Allowance, I don’t know how much it is because we aren’t eligible for Pension Credit.

Does she have Attendance Allowance? If she has it at the lower rate, have you checked whether she could now be entitled to the higher rate?

The carers allowance isn't stopped, but it is classified as an overlapping benefit with the State Pension, so she will not be paid both. If the State Pension entitlement is higher that the Carers Allowance, the Carers Allowance will reduce to zero, but the underlying entitlement still remains and she would still be entitled to any benefits that are dependant upon being in receipt of Carers Allowance.

Carers allowance is to part compensate for being unable to work, due to caring responsibilities. Which is why if you do work ( more than a few hours a week)or have income from other sources ( like the state pension), then you do not get it anymore.

When you reach SPA the government are in a way paying you for your time, they do not pay you twice for that time.
