For lots of information on bland dvd's check out CDfreaks.com the forums there are full of info on whats best DVD-r pr DVD+r.
DVD-r are the most compatible if you just look at burning without any special settings. However if you have a DVD writer on you PC that allows booktype setting then you can make a DVD+r write as a DVD-ROM which is the most universally compatible disk but needs a writer thats supports setting the booktype.

For places to buy disks I like to buy spindles of 100 from udvdr as I find the price and service to be excellent.
Dont just go for the cheapest you can find though as some of the budget disks are next to useless.0
