Hairdressers role play area for children?!?

I am a student teacher, and have to set up a hairdressers roleplay area on a budget! I've discovered its cheaper to buy a real hairdryer from Argos and take the cable off that what it is to buy a pretend one! I am looking for other suggestions as I am struggling on this one!

Thanks

  • Just a thought - do you have a hairdressing college near you? They might be inclined to help a fellow student with some old stuff?

i hate to put a downer on things when my dd was in nursery, the teachers decided to do this, which at the time i thought was a good idea so when the teachers got all the items they needed, they then had a change of heart because of the hairbrushing etc involved... regarding headlice so it all got knocked on the head so to speak:rolleyes:

Presumably you have looked in Poundland/99p shop as they often have play beauty kits/hair dryer sets. Sure you could get cheap curlers and I know our Poundland has those bendy hair rods. Those plastic shower caps might be good too.

Collect old shampoo bottles and fill with water and food colouring for interest.

If you are worried about nits, why not just supply nit combs - less chance of any nasties spreading then. You could use this as an opportunity to educate the children about nits and get them to check each other.

How old are the children, I can remember having a few hair cut incidents with my siblings and with my two when they were young.
