Being contacted about a default after 6 years

Hello,
I have recently moved house and in the last few weeks started receiving letters from a debt collectors regarding a debt of £150 from an old credit card which I was unable to pay years ago.
It had defaulted and I've checked my credit file it dropped off a few months back.
Can they still chase me for this and what would you advise me to do ?

You could ask them if they have any proof that it's your debt and given the time that you believe it would be time barred in any case.
edit - do so by snail mail not email or phone so you don't give them an easy way to harass you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Surely the right thing to do would be to pay it if you can afford to now? Whether it is statue barred or not you still owe the money.0

If they have taken no action in six years then some might say they've had fair opportunity to recover any money that might be due.
OP if you've had no contact and/or made no payment for six years or more then its statute barred and you can either ignore them or write to them stating this fact."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

When did you last pay and when is the default date? If it's statute barred then you can just ignore it, if it will become statute barred soon then you could ignore it until it does. Debt camel gives some more information:
