If self employed then class 2 is / may be available to pay at between £158.60 and £179.40 depending on year. From 22-23 if your SE profits are above £6723 you will be credited without paying. For years prior to 2013? if you were not registered for a small earning exception then class 2 may not be available and class 3, at around £824, would have to be paid.Do you actually need to fill gaps?1

Thank u for response .1-Yes I have gaps so how would I know or not if I need to fill gaps? 🤔
2-How far back can we go? 🤔
3- I was at uni abroad can this be topped up too🤔.
4- can one contribute in 2 countries ?
5- not sure I understood the small earnings exception please could it be explained? Does it mean I still get credited for that year that I didn’t earn much in self employment?Thank u in advance0 -
You can contribute in two countries, but generally in one country you'll pay voluntary contributions - for example I used to pay voluntary contributions in Germany while I worked in the UK (where I paid regular NI contributions), and now that I'm back in Germany I pay voluntary NI contributions in the UK, while paying statutory state pension contributions in Germany through my employment. Those two sets of mandatory/statutory contributions may interact with each other, but how depends on agreements between countries.0

1) First port of call is a pension forecast. What exactly does it show ? Answer the following and someone will talk you through it.Current weekly £££.pp amount accrued up to April 2023
Number of pre April 2016 NI years full
Number of post April 2016 NI years full
Tax year you reach state retirement
Any COPE amount shown, in a click link in "You've been in a contracted-out pension scheme", if there is one.
Years which show not full and prices2) 2006-07 (available until April 2025)3) If you had worked prior to then it may be possible at class 2 rates, otherwise class 3 (but see 2)4) Yes5) It was something you had to apply for if you had a very small profit. You were not automatically credited until 2022-23 but if you did not have the exception in place HMRC may not allow class 2 voluntary pre 2013. HMRC would know. You mention being overseas, which years ? Class 2 may be available. Which years were self employed and are you still ? If not what are you currently doing ?0
