Leather?

It is better to think of leather as a bi-product from Meat and milk production(a bit like Veal Calves....no one likes that trade....but everyone still drinks Cows Milk). Its all a fact of life. Cows are generally well looked after...and are generally killed at 18 months. The only exception is the like of Highland Cattle.
That (joking apart) could be a source of what you are looking for as their thick coats protect them from a lot of scratches etc....and they would not all be killed at 18 months old. Also (while the Beef is Excellent) that is generally not why they are raised.
I've drunk half a bottle of baileys, 9 bottles of Becks and some vodka. Can you use smaller words please? This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -

Here is one of the definitions.....- (logic) A logical fallacy on the part of the observer, where two items placed next to each other imply a correlation, when none is actually claimed.

Yeah. Ermm. Fishcakes taste nice. This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
I don't really know to much about this. But wouldn't that animal that provides the leather have been killed anyway for meat?
Doe's that go against what your looking for / ethics?0 -
Thank you Q for not being judgemental.
But to everyone else the leather isn't actually for me. The question was asked on behalf of my Mother, who is a strict vegetarian and has been for over 30 years. She doesn't eat fish, or anything that has ever breathed, nor does she wear, buy or contribute to any form of meat industry.
I would like her to get a leather sofa and she was wondering if there is any leather produced from cows who have died of natural causes/old age otherwise she won't get one.
So to those of you who made the sarcastic comments thank you very much, but I am not a hypocrite. I eat meat and am proud to eat meat. However, I beg to differ on the quality of life for cows if you wish to read this article you may change your opinion.
It was a genuine question.I saw two shooting stars last nightI wished on them but they were only satellitesIs it wrong to wish on space hardwareI wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -

Great Example......If you think of Cake you think sweet Sticky Chocolate....So A FishCake is a culinary juxtaposition indeed....Brilliant....and you were trying to say you had been drinking.....;)
I cant help It ...I was traumatised as a child when I once accidentally tuned from Radio1 to Radio 4.......:DI am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

I assume she drinks only Soya Milk and not cows milk then?So to those of you who made the sarcastic comments thank you very much, but I am not a hypocrite. I eat meat and am proud to eat meat. It was a genuine question.
I didn't doubt that it was!
I was not being sarcastic...funny yes...but sarcastic - NO.
I did suggest Highland Cattle as they are generally not reared for meat and I also explained why Tanneries do not use old hides. If you look at a Leather sofa - the quality of the leather varies - the visible parts have the best quality leather with few (never no) blemishes. The sides and back are generally poorer quality and feel 'colder to the touch' and generally have more 'grain/texture' to them.
In terms of the article - it is a bit bias - look at the terms of phrase used. It assumes human emotion and uses emotional blackmail words. I'm not getting at you (unless you wrote it of course). But I live in the country and have been to a slaughterhouse. My Children know where meat comes (ie Not the Supermarket in a plastic tray) from and what it is. They have seen rabbits being skinned (to be eaten) and know how to get the (little) meat out of a pheasant. Rather than be traumatised by such 'barbaric' going ons they accept it as part of life, but do appreciate that they can choose to eat meat or not. My old neighbour even used to shoot the (Gray) squirrels and eat them. His outlook was 'never kill what you wont eat'.I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

(If she is a strict vegetarian, why would she want have a dead cow in her living room?)
I really don't think that you'll be able to find such leather to be honest.0 -

Yes actually she does only drink soya milk. However, I don't think I said that she was a vegan.
She doesn't drink red wine due to fish being used. Nor does she eat any gelatine etc etc. But again, thank you for questioning my Mother's ethical stance.I saw two shooting stars last nightI wished on them but they were only satellitesIs it wrong to wish on space hardwareI wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0 -

Because if an animal has died naturally and not given it's life to provide her with a product she would be happy to use what is left of an animal. I don't see that there is any problem in that if there was such a thing.
I suspect by the wonderful comments made that there may not be such a product out there.I saw two shooting stars last nightI wished on them but they were only satellitesIs it wrong to wish on space hardwareI wish, I wish, I wish you'd care0
