Debt with mortgage company

I’m in process of a DMP and had some great advice so far. Partner still doesn’t know and will be advised when I’m sorted .. just don’t need extra stress whilst already stressed .

One question I have is that my mortgage is with nationwide who I bank with I’ve moved to another bank now for personal account and have a joint account with nationwide for bills only … stepchange advised …..  Right of set-off cannot be used to transfer money:
  • From your joint account to a sole debt in your name
  • From your joint account to another joint account you have with a different person

So I’m assuming this means they can’t take any money from our joint bills account which to be honest has little balance at end of month and can’t take anything from joint savings we have about £3.5k which is husbands money really just the account is in both names …

what about mortgage ? I’m assuming when people say you have the option to remain on your deal or get a new deal if you stay with your current lender .. anyone had debts with their lender and been refused new deals ? We have 3.5 year before due ri renew l

Had Stepchange explained that if you run any bank account with your partner, doing a DMP will wreck their credit rating as well?

Having a joint mortgage won't be great but you need to separate out your unsecured accounts. Either take your name off the joint account or open a new account elsewhere.
