Anyone else finding the current job market tough?

I've been keeping a keen eye since before Christmas, Indeed unless you want a care roll or Nursing is useless, anything suitable if at all is miles away, factor in transport wouldn't be doable. I did think it would pick up into new year but it's not happened.

Compared to this time last year I had 3 job offers when I was facing redundancy, ultimately made the wrong choice.

I'm not being fussy either, I've had my hours at work cut so I'd happily even take retail to boost hours but it's literally not appearing

In most industries late December and January are pretty much dead. Feb/March can be ok, people realising they have budget left over so can get someone new in but inevitably April/May are strong months as people leave after getting their bonus/profit share etc and the new financial year starts and departments have cash again.

It'll inevitably vary by industry/job role etc... not looking for work at the moment but getting a lot of calls from agents talking about roles and some at monies that could be tempting.

Depends what you qualifications are, what your job field is and what pay/T&Cs you are after

If everything appart from care/nursing is “useless” - why not work in those fields?

After all, everyone always says how great the T&Cs and pension are in the NHS. There are also dozens of other roles available in the NHS. Contrary to the media and public belief, not all workers are Doctors+Nurses
  • Depends what you are after.

Utilities/construction/driving etc, are always looking. We have more jobs than we can fill at my place due to lack of skilled workers in my sector.

Some sectors are struggling, but in general I haven't seen any changes from my area.

I lost my job on Dec 1st and decided not to even bother looking until this month. Previous jobs finishing in December told me there'd be little point.

If you don't mind me asking, what sector are you in?

I  started to look for a new job in mid-October. I looked for job in accounts, I had finance background, but not accountancy. I had 15 interviews within five weeks, rejected for lack of experience. I applied for for a job very similar I had before and was accepted. It has taken six weeks from leaving one job and getting an offer for another one. It also has taken two months to do all necessary checks on me, so, from leaving one job to starting another it has taken three and half months. Finance industry.
