I too was going to ask if the smell was due to damp - if you have no windows in your bathroom, are you ventilating it properly? I assume you have an extractor fan, so are you using that for long enough to remove the condensation?

I have always put soda bicarb down my drains followed by a good squirt of white vinegar when it stops bubbling a kettle of hot water and the drains clears and empties twice as quickly Been doing this for over 50 years and its always worked very well for me .By the way my late Father was a chemist and my late Mother did the same when I was a little girl

They do cancel / neutralise one another ( Base + Acid). It’s the fizzing action of the reaction (Carbon Dioxide and Water) that helps to dissolve blockages.

Where is the aroma coming from? And how would you describe it? Like gas?

Do you have a shower or bath in there, where the drain may not be functioning correctly... I'd be looking to clean out any drains.

Is the smell of faeces? Is there the possibility that a waste pipe behind tiles /the wall might be blocked or cracked? Is there a rodding point that could be accessed?
Im not going back in to smell it, I suspect its from the toilet, I think someone was either sick or maybe diarhoea.

Thanks for the replies. So to recap its not a damp issue, family member stayed a few nights last year, smell wasnt there before they stayed and smell was there when they left, I believe the smell is from the toilet. Ill give the suggestions a go.

I think you're going to have to go in, and scrub then...

(I worked in an office where in the summer there was an eyewateringly bad stink from the gents in the summer. Smell leached out into the corridor alongside. Eventually a plumber took the panelling off the back wall to gain access to the drain run, only to discover that there was no cover screwed over the end of the drain pipe and all the sewer gases from ours and neighbouring buildings were coming up in our building.)

OP, what is the floor covering? Is it something like vinyl? Could liquid have got under it and soaked into the floor?

If they vomited in the toilet or had the squits it woud have flushed by now. You're most likely looking at blowback from a u bend, so clean them all. I sometimes have a stink like hideous onions in my shower and that's from the pipes clogging up with soap scum and OHs hair so a drain cleaner is usually employed then.

Well not sure what it was, could have been the remnants. I did go a little overboard and bought some zoflora, some other toilet things that stick to the inside of the bowl and a bag of soda crystals, poured boiling water and so far that has worked.
