I used a Pyrex casserole dish for mine - well greased and it worked well.

the pie was a success - granddaughter had fun measuring and making it although she declared the uncooked concoction looked vile.  She was thrilled when it puffed up and layered itself.

Gave the last portion with custard to my v elderly dad today and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've looked at the recipe which has me wondering - does it taste egg-y? I ask because I have a heightened sense of taste alongside smell. The "bakery" loaf / ring sponges in Asda and Morrisons for example are off the agenda because to me the over-whelming taste is that of egg, which puts me right off. Usually it cannot be tasted in a custard.

Given the reception your pie got I'd like to give it a go, but for that risk.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

I think the addition of vanilla removes any eggyness. I also added a big spoon of marmalade to mine because I wanted to finish the jar off and a handful of raisins, which predictably fell to the bottom but were lovely and plump, I'll just sprinkle them in evenly next time..I also didn't have enough coconut bits but it didn't make much of a difference I don't think [I've had a  part packet hanging round for a while]. I also used uht instead of fresh because I ran out..All in all, there's only half left at the moment because OH has demolished some, so still a successful bake.
