council tax discount / exemption

i summitted an application for council tax discount / exemption so that i can move to my mums house to look after her as i am a career for her.
i received a letter which says i cannot award a discount because our records indicate that she dose not live at your address. in order to be eligible the discount, you must live with the person you are caring for.
if i move from my address to my mum to look after her how would i get an council tax discount or exemption

You have to move into your mother's house and live there before you would be able to claim any discount or exemption. After you have moved in and if you are providing at least 35 hours of care per week, you can apply to the council again. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

i already moved into my mothers house and this was informed to the council. Now there sent a letter that says she dose not live at my address. my mother lived at her own address but the understanding i get from this letter that there asking me to move my mum to my address to get a exemption. I'm quite sure the rule is if i move out of my property to care for someone the council tax either be discount or exempt.lincroft1710 said:You have to move into your mother's house and live there before you would be able to claim any discount or exemption. So which is it?
But the council are correct, she does not live at your address, she lives at her own address.
I would suggest you write to the council and say.
"I write to inform you that on (date) I Hepatel moved from (your full address) to permanently live and care for my mother (her name) at (her address). I am therefore applying for the relevant Council Tax discount on my mother's home as I should be disregarded since I am her full time live-in carer. I also wish to apply for an exemption from paying Council Tax on my own home as it is unoccupied due to the fact I am giving full time care to my mother at her own home"If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
