Self assessment - I’ve paid tax due but balance isn’t updated

Now I realise this may be a stupid thing I’m worried about.
I paid my tax bill for 22/23 on Saturday via the HMRC app, so it linked to my bank account and money came straight out. I paid in full.
My balance hasn’t updated on the app yet and is still showing as outstanding. As I say the payments have left my bank account and they’re showing on the app, it’s just the balance hasn’t updated yet.

Do I have anything to worry about here - will the fact that the balance hasn’t updated yet cause me to get a fine? Surely the fact I’ve paid before the 31st jan deadline, via bank transfer is enough?

You have nothing to worry about - give it a few days!
Also there are no ‘fines’ on late payment other than a 5% surcharge on any 2022/23 payment still outstanding 30 days from today.0 -
Thank you - I thought there was a £100 fine and interest if payment wasn’t made by 31st Jan?0

No - that relates to the submission of the return only. A common misunderstanding. There is interest on late payment- currently at the rate of roughly 21p per £1000 per day - 7.75%.GeordieDancer99 said:Thank you - I thought there was a £100 fine and interest if payment wasn’t made by 31st Jan?

Paid my tax on 27th Jan but when I checked my tax account, the wrong amount has been credited and it's not even remotely like what I paid! Tried calling them and gave up after an hour so have sent a complaint form to HMRC. Do I just leave it and wait for their reply? It's been debited from my bank account

I sort out the self assessment for my elderly mum every year, she owes a very small amount and I ticked the Direct Debit box as this is how I paid it last year, the direct debit is still active with the bank but no monies taken as yet? Not sure whether to just pay it manually or wait to see if the direct debit goes through? Annoying that you cannot contact HMRC online"Hope for the Best
Prepare for the worst"0
